Khyzi – Land of Caramel Mountains

Khizi region is the closest mountainous region of Azerbaijan to Baku. A significant part of the region is covered with forest. But Khizi is especially famous for its unusual nature, especially caramel mountains. Sometimes Khizi is called the land of red mountains. The mountainous landscape is somewhat reminiscent of Martian landscapes. And sometimes they look like a layer cake. This natural phenomenon attracts tourists to Khizi, who pour out their emotions into numerous photo sessions, statuses and blog entries. Because it is impossible not to admire the red mountains of the Azerbaijani Khizi.

Khiziare absolutely amazing golden-red caramel mountains. Absolutely unusual colored landscape. They are covered with a layer of clay with stones. It is said that such a geological phenomenon can be observed in only one other place on Earth. There are similar mountains in the Death Valley in the USA. However, this is far away, and Khyzi is much closer nearby, in Azerbaijan!
It is always cooler in Khizi than in Baku by a few degrees, the peaks of the mountains are covered with snow in winter.

Mount Beshbarmak (Five-fingered Mountain) 

So named because of its bizarre shape.
The ruins of the Beshbarmak fortress (8th century), the ruins of the ancient city and the ruins of the Khizi fortress (5th century) have also been preserved here. Many tourists who have been here remember this mountain as one of the most mysterious and special, resembling a palm. At the very top, among the teeth of the rocks, there are the ruins of the Khyzyrzinde sanctuary.
