Tour to Lahij - village of craftsmen

TOUR DETAILS

Lahij

A colorful open-air Azerbaijani village-museum, perfectly preserved and not losing its historical appearance. It is entirely a state historical reserve, containing the architecture of the 15th-19th centuries. It is located in the Ismayilli region of Azerbaijan, on the southern slope of the Greater Caucasus.

This medieval city, with its unique streets and squares, became famous in the Caucasus and in many countries of the world as a center of ancient creativity. It is said that the legendary Monomakh's hat, passed down from generation to generation of Russian tsars for centuries, was made here. It is already worth coming here just because Lahij is an open-air museum. Every stone, every path, every house and street has a thousand-year history. The people here are very friendly. They are passionate about their traditions. Almost every inhabitant has some mysterious story from the 1001 Nights series hidden for you. Streets paved with river stone are laid throughout the city. They give the city a special flavor. Crafts are developed in these places. Lagich is especially famous for the manufacture of edged weapons. There are many kinds of workshops here. If you want to buy a souvenir, then skilled craftsmen will make it right in front of your eyes. In Lahij, in harmony with nature, you can enjoy the taste of gourmet dishes that embody Caucasian traditions.

Museum of History and Local Lore (Lahich)

A unique place that keeps the exhibits of antiquity. Huge lamps, which served both for lighting and heating needs, can be safely considered the hallmark of this museum.

Makhalla (ancient streets of Lahij)

Mysterious and colorful streets in a medieval style, where trade is still in full swing. These streets are built up with various workshops, whose craftsmen can make a souvenir especially for you and surprise you with their brilliant craftsmanship.

Market Square

The gate of Lahic is the market square. One of the features of this historic village is that cars are not allowed into the village. You can walk here either on horseback or on foot. Car parking is located near the market square.

Suspension bridge (closer to Lahij)

The landscapes here are wonderful. The sun with its rays further emphasized the beauty of these places. Words cannot convey. On the way you will come across an old makeshift suspension bridge. Apparently, there is no lack of adrenaline among users of this bridge.

Diri Baba (Maraza)

The two-storey mausoleum-mosque of Deri-Baba of the 15th century, carved into the rock, is located opposite the old cemetery. For a long time, local residents kept a legend that a saint named Diri Baba was buried here and remained incorrupt.

Juma Mosque (Shamakhi)

It was erected in the VIII century, when Shemakha was chosen as a residence by the Arab caliph.
